I am a former collegiate football player (offensive lineman) who took up running to lose weight, and in the process I have become addicted! I started running at 290 lbs.  I am married and we are expecting our first child in September 2014.

Trying a bit of a different approach this week.  I want to run at least 7 miles every day, and then have my normal long run on Saturday.  This way I will get more miles, and not get as worn out by my 10 mile runs.

 That being said I did an extra long cool-down today that made it so I ran 8 miles.  I warmed up for 3 miles at an 8:34 pace.  Then I turned it up for 3.5 miles at a 7:30 pace followed by my cool-down for 1.5 miles.

AM: Nice easy 3 mile run around the West Valley Fitness Center.  It felt good, and I was glad that I got out and did it.

 

PM: 4 miles (as always, just a guess) playing 2 hours of full court basketball.  Good times, and great exercise!!

A pretty good speed workout for me today.  I really got after it, and feel like I accomplished the purpose of it.  I started off with a 2 mile warm-up, then was going to do some sets of 800's.  The first 800 I did at a 6:54 pace, and it felt a bit too easy, so as I jogged a bit before my next 800 I decided I was going to hold that pace for a mile.  I did it, and actually held it for 1.25.  After that I jogged for a 1/4 mile and then did 2x400 at a 6:00 min pace.  Then I got real goofy and held my marathon goal pace for 1 mile.  then cooled down for 3/4 of a mile.  Overall it was a really different kind of workout, but I feel really good about it.  So far this has been a good week of work for me.

Good run today, not a real fast one, but I got in some good uphill miles.  I was able to manipulate it so that almost all 7 miles were uphill!  Anyways, I felt good through the whole thing, and even though my pace was a bit slower than usual I kept my heart-rate up pretty high.

So the plan today was to play half court basketball at the school this morning, and then have a light run this evening.  That plan changed when we had 11 guys show up for basketball which changed the game to a full court game.  So it was pretty rough on my legs today.  After that, this afternoon at the school I got ambitious and played a game called sideline football with the team.  I completely thrashed my legs, and will have to wait to run til tomorrow.

Today was an interesting run, but it was really a lot of fun.  A couple of weeks ago my brother-in-law decided we were going to run trappers loop  by snow basin.  What I didn't know is that he was not even close to being in shape to do it.

The first 2 miles I just stuck with him, and there was probably more walking than running.  Then I decided to do something different. I decided that I was going to run up .75, and then run back to him, wherever he was.  This lasted all the way to the top of the climb, then he was able to run the 4 miles down the other side.  

After getting done with the trappers loop part my wife ran the next mile with me, and then I finished up the run around Huntsville.  Huntsville is a beautiful place, and running their made me excited to run Ogden!
