Personal:

I am a former collegiate football player (offensive lineman) who took up running to lose weight, and in the process I have become addicted! I started running at 290 lbs.  I am married and we are expecting our first child in September 2014.

AM: Hoops with the guys, nice 1 hr workout.  Counted it for 3 slow miles.

PM: 5 with the xc team.  They were going easy, so I tried to keep up.  Went south on 5600 first, so up the hill.  Avg going up was around 8:30, then on the way down we kept it around 7:00.  Everything is feeling really good.  I have really enjoyed the week of work with the young guns. 

GOT INTO OGDEN TODAY!!!!

Good Saturday run.  Took it easy for most of it, then put 2 miles of tempo together towards the end.  I really like running in Syracuse, found a nice trail to run on.  Splits were 8:05, 7:46, 7:47, 8:03, 8:07, 8:09, 8:02, 7:53, 7:38, 7:32, 8:31, 2:23.  Everything felt great, and I am really enjoying getting more serious once again.  OGDEN IS LURKING :)

Two separate afternoon runs today.  The first was early with the xc team.  I did six.  First 4 were nice and easy, around an 8:10 avg pace, then 2 good tempo miles around 7:15.

Then tonight my wife wanted me to run with her so I did a nice easy 3 mile loop with her.  Overall a good solid day, something I missed during football season.

Slower day today.  7 on the indoor track at HHS.  I chose to run on the indoor track because I wanted to watch basketball tryouts, so it wasn't as boring as one might think.  first 6 miles were right around 7:55, then I slowed it way down for the last mile because I was tired and wanted a "cool down".

Track workout with the xc team and a cold.  Warmed up for 2 miles nice and easy, with the last .25 with some build-ups.  Then the fun began;

12x400 in 3 minute intervals.  So 3 min after the start of the rep we would begin the next rep.  It equaled out to about 90 sec of rest between each 400. The first 2 we were supposed to be about 5 sec slower than we planned on running the final 10.  My first split was 89 , and I felt that was about right, my second warm up split was 88, and I was feeling pretty good about being able to run 84 for the final 10. The last 10 splits were; 84, 83, 85, 89, 91, 95, 93, 96, 95, 97.  

It is pretty evident that I wasn't quite ready for this workout, but it was good for me to do something like this.  I was only able to do half the workout at the effort level I wanted.  No place to go but up!

Cooled down with an easy mile.

Felt much better today.  Ran on the indoor track around 8:30 pace.  Tried to go faster for 1 mile, but started to cough uncontrollably.  That mile came in around 8 min, so I am far from being my normal self.  Hopefully I continue to feel better tomorrow :)

Still feeling pretty crappy, but thought I better get after it.  Warmed up @ 8:34 for 1 and 8:00 for 1.  Then dropped it down to 7:34 for 1 followed by 3 miles @ 7:03 with a cool down mile @ 8:46.

After a full day of fishing I didn't know what to expect from my legs, so I started off conservatively.  8:34, 8:20, 8:15, and I hit the 30 min mark in 3.6, and decided I would pick it up and see how long I could hold onto it, so I cranked it up to 7:30 and was able to hold it for the rest of the hour with only a little bit of strain.  So it turned into almost 4.5 miles of marathon tempo, which I was happy with after the whole day on my feet.  

 Looking forward to a good turkey day tomorrow!

Well, I took the weekend off to make sure I'm feeling good because it is time for me to start hitting it hard again.  Monday the real push begins again.  The first goal is consistency again!

Well, all I have to say is, IT'S ABOUT TIME!!  I finally feel focused and ready to go, and I think the work out reflects that focus!  Now, It's about consistency!!  First 3 @8:34, next 2 @8:00 then 4 @ 7:30 with the last mile coming in @7:00.  Feeling pretty good after and look forward to another good day tomorrow!!

Well, it was kind of a weird run tonight.  I started out nice and easy as planned, but then I got a HUGE side ache.  The pain stayed with me until about mile 4.5 and I finally started to feel good, but the problem was that is when it was time to run up hill into the wind.  My splits started to drop, but not near enough to reflect the solid effort I was putting in.  Anyways, I guess it was probably good for my legs to run the whole distance at an easier pace.
