Well, today started off great! Everything was going just how I planned it out in my head.  The idea was to start off running the first half with all my splits between 7:45-8:00, and I did just that! The best part about this section of the run was that I got to run with RAD, and we were dominating the coarse! Then the plan was to hold on to anything between 8:00-8:20 until I hit the mouth of the canyon.  So far to this point I was feeling great about how well I had executed my plan.  It had gone near flawlessly!!  Then disaster struck!!  I hit the canyon and reached back for a little kick and was pretty good for about 1 mile down the canyon.  Then I completely died, and did the old man shuffle the rest of the way in, and I managed to hold on for a sub 3:45.  It was probably the hardest 6 miles of my life.  Every step hurt, with the cramps as well as the weakness in the legs, but I stuck with it and just made it through!

I can't say that I'm not a bit disappointed with the result, because I am, but I am still very happy that I got a good PR, and know what I need to do to get my time down, MORE MILES!!!

Good job Preston. The last 6 miles of the marathon is always going to kick you but, it's just a matter of how hard. You are right on track with your "more miles" thinking. The magic number for me, and probably most, is about 60 miles a week for the whole year. Easier said than done. I see that you were there during your training so there is no doubt you can do it. Your 3:44 is an impressive improvement. I know what it's like to be disappointed after a marathon. It's silly when you think about it, however, it's what keeps you going, especially a competitor like you. Congratulations, you're already 11th in your age group, very impressive.

A PR is a PR! Congrats!

You'll go even faster at UVM and/or StG!

Thanks for hanging with me those first 10 miles. It made the rest of the race doable! I really don't know if I would've fared as well without you there to chat with. I don't know when or how I lost you, but it was like you were there, then you were gone. I kept just thinking I'd see you creeping up on me at any second. Everyone that passed me I'd look over at. I'm sure they thought I was paranoid or something :) nope, just waiting for a friend.

Congrats on a nice PR and you've now got a check mark on one of your short-term goals! I'd sit back and relax and UVM, Ogden and UVM so close together did me in last year - so don't push it, just enjoy it :) Get those legs used to the miles (like you said) and you'll have that 3:30 you've trained for in the bag. It took me 10 marathons before I got my BQ and almost had this one wrenched from my hands, but I was just too darn stubborn :) You'll get this! The marathon is a monster, but an addictive one!

Thanks for all the support guys! I really appreciate it.

Laputka: you are an inspiration, I mean how many people can run fast in crocs!?

Jake: Thanks, I know I will get it.

Rachel: I was planning on taking it easy at UVM, but I am going to go on feel, so if I feel great I might be dumb and go for it. Thanks so much for running with me Saturday!

Great job Preston! Gotta be happy with a PR! You have the fitness for 3:30 - rest up so you can get another PR in a few weeks!!

Thanks Andrea! I think a PR is a definite possibility!

Smile for the pR!!! It is amazing how tough we are on ourselves sometime, huh?

Best of luck to ya in running! And maybe see ya in a few weeks. ;o) Darn, I wish this next one was not so close.
