Today went better than the 5k, but it still wasn't the effort I was looking for.  I wanted to keep it right around 7 min, and I thought that was definitely possible.  I warmed up with 5, and I was glad I did, because on the way back from the warm-up it had started to snow pretty heavily and I realized that it was going to suck!  I looked for someone with extra glasses, but came up empty handed, oh well.  I started the race just how I wanted, with the first mile being 6:59.  About half way through mile 2 I saw a familiar face coming up next to me, and said hello to Andrea.  She was nice enough to stay with me and helped pace me the rest of the way.  Mile 2 was right at 7, then we got to the turnaround keeping a pretty good pace.  We turned around, and this is when it started to get rough.  The wind had picked up a bit, but what was bad was the snow in the face.  I had to back off the pace a bit, and Andrea told me to just try and hold on around a 7:15 pace.  I was barely able to for miles 4 and 5.  Then the last mile Andrea picked it up, and I stuck with her.  I think we were real close to 7 min again.  Then for the last push I went as hard as I could, but just didn't have much left.  After the race I got some hot chocolate, and tried to warm up, but had no luck.  I thanked Andrea for her help, and then headed home.

7:08 ave pace for the race is great! Good job. It's easy to be disappointed but you really did well. You have the drive to reach the goals you've set. Most races are like this, it's what keeps you training hard. The 15K is a lot of fun, great distance and probably the only time you'll ever get to run one. See you in two weeks.

Thanks Mike, I have a tough time keeping things in perspective sometimes! See you at the 15k!
